The Platform for Better Oral Health

On Monday, November 21st 2016, The Platform for Better Oral Health in Europe gathered its Associate Members, including EDSA, for the Annual Meeting in Brussels. Luka Banjšak and Valentin Garyga represented the Association.

The Meeting was the occasion to be updated on the Platform’s latest activities. Notably, a “Best Practice” map featuring examples of successful prevention projects around Europe that will foster inspiration for people looking to implement similar projects.

In addition, the action and communication plan for 2017 was discussed. This document summarises the targets for 2017 Platform members should strive to achieve; it complements the Platform’s 2020 Roadmap.

Lastly, the meeting was an occasion for EDSA to renew its wish to contribute inside the Platform. We called for more projects to be designed and run, in addition to policy documents. The Platform represents a wide network of experts in all fields of oral health, that EDSA might reach to gain support when developing future projects. In addition, Luka and Valentin presented the results of the survey of delegates that was held in preparation for the meeting. 80% of delegates had heard of the Platform but 60% were not familiar with its activities. Also, there was a strong consensus that more training for prevention projects could be organized, during meetings and at school. The fields that delegates were the most interested in are periodontology, oral cancer and oral lesions, pediatric dentistry and cariology. This will be integrated into upcoming EDSA projects.”
