FEDCAR Autumn Assembly
1st December 2017
Today our organization was present at the Autumn Assembly of the FEDCAR (Federation of European Dental Competent Authorities and Regulators) in Paris. The FEDCAR brings together European orders and bodies responsible for the regulation, the registration and the supervision of dental practitioners.
For EDSA, the elephant in the room is the major threat to public health caused by inadequately trained practitioners. As a patient, who would feel safe being treated by someone who has never practiced on patients during their education?
The proportionality test proposal, the partial access to the profession of the dentist, and the lack of clinical education in some EU dental schools were the key topics of the day. A presentation on disruptive innovation by Ms. Ania Thiemann from OECD also invited us to consider the evolution of medical professions in an age where technology is everywhere.
More information on this meeting in our upcoming newsletter. (Some aspects of the slide are blurred because the case is being brought before the French courts.)
